We are offering full and part time classes. The State of Michigan requires that students must have
proof that they are at least 16 years of age, but they can not apply for a license until they are at
least 17. Students must have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) or a 9th grade
education, or an official transcript and have good moral character. Students and student Instructors must be able to stand for
long periods of time and work with chemicals.
Transfer students will be tested on both theory and practical before being admitted to school. Also,
a transfer must be provided from their previous school. These hours are transferable at the schools discretion.
Instructors courses will need a copy of their cosmetology license in order to prove that this has been completed.
Cosmetology:

1500 hours of education are required to take the State of Michigan licensing exam.

Nail Technicians: 400 total hours

Esthetician: 400 total hours

Instructor’s Course: 500 total hours

Esthetician and Nail Tech Instructor: 300 total hours
All courses must pass with an 80% grade here at French Academy.
You must get a 70% in order to pass the State Board of Michigan exam.
